'Beag' is a celtic word. It means small. So a beagle is smallish.

If it weren't about to rain, this is what Kirby would be doing right now - running around the dog park all by himself. Instead he's going to a playdate with some other dogs who will probably give him the 'beagle slapdown.' Its tough being the cutest dog.
